    Description

I am helping out with the estate of a good friend of mine who was a ham radio operator and collected vintage gear for many years.
I will be listing his equipment during the coming weeks and months.
Here is the probable forerunner to the Radio Shack Science Fair and Allied Knight Kit electronic project kits from the 1960’s and later.
It’s a Science Electronics “Erec-Tronic Set” that was made in 1955 and it appears to be unused.
Science Electronics sold this and other similar sets until 1959 when A. C. Gilbert acquired the company.
Gilbert continued to use the name "Erec-tronic" since it was a perfect complement to their own Erector Sets which most baby boomers are familiar with.
The Elec-Tronic sets allowed even a child to assemble a working radio set in a few minutes without using tools, or soldering.
What the Erec-Tronic set consists of and how it is used can be summed up by the following instructions:
    1. Place template (printed page) on mounting board (pegboard, also called a breadboard) with holes in template lined up with holes in board.
    2. Place electronic parts, already mounted on numbered plastic bases, in places shown on template.
    3. Use clip-on wires to make solderless connections with terminal posts on each component's base.
You can build 15 different circuits including crystal sets, one-tube radios – both broadcast band and shortwave, and a code practice oscillator.
I have inventoried this kit and every piece listed in the manual is there except for the D-cell flashlight battery.
There is even a 45-volt battery included although it is not the original and it still measures 47 volts across the terminals.
All of the documentation is there and it is obvious this set saw very little, if any use.
Please look at the photos carefully for more information.
There is also an octal tube socket included but there is no mention of its use in the manual.
This set is in nearly pristine condition.
The only flaw is it appears either the original 45-volt battery or the original D-cell battery leaked onto the upper right hand corner of the box.
Other than that, I cannot find anything else to mention.
I have no idea what this kit is worth but an A.C. Gilbert version recently sold for 0 on eBay.
I’ll start the bidding on this one at 9.99 and we’ll see what happens.
I doubt there is another one anywhere this nice.
Sold “as is” but guaranteed to be as described.
